The main research fields in the department are the following: the study of relationship between the strain-stress state in rock massifs and the developing hazardous geological processes; the study of active water exchange and anthropogenic load effect on karst and suffosion development; the elaboration of methods of assessment and prediction of stability of karst-prone areas and river-valley slopes.
